Q: HOW ARE THE SOLAR PANELS FIXED TO THE ROOF?
A: The panels are fitted using stainless steel fixing brackets which are then bolted to the rafters for security and stability. If you have a flat roof, we will use an A-frame to secure the panels at an angle |

Q: CAN SOLAR ENERGY WORK DURING THE WINTER MONTHS?
A: Our systems are designed to work all year round. They are dependent on radiation levels rather than direct sunlight hitting the panels and these vary on a daily basis. The panels will work extremely effectively during long periods of cloud cover also. |

Q: DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?
A: If you live in a Grade I, II* or II listed property it is likely you will need to seek listed building consent to install your panels. You should also seek guidance from your local planning department if you live in an area of outstanding natural beauty or in a conservation area. However, aside from these, solar panels fall into the category of a permitted development, (town and country planning order, 1995) so no consent or permission should be necessary |

Q: CAN THE PANELS PRODUCE ELECTRICITY?
A: The solar panels used by The Solar Company UK are known as Thermal Solar Systems and are for the production of hot water only. They are not to be confused with PV panels, namely Photovoltaic, which are used to produce electricity |

Q: How will MY INSTALLING solar PANELS help the environment?
A: A typical domestic solar hot water system can save in the region of 1/2 a tonne of CO2 emissions a year. Imagine the scenario; each of the 20 million households in the UK had a solar hot water system . . . that would equate to a saving of approximately 10,000,000 tonnes of CO2 each year in the UK! |
| |
Q: HOW LONG WILL THE PANELS LAST?
A: Our solar panels are very robust, you can expect one of our systems to last well in excess of 25 years |
| |
Q: CAN I USE THE SYSTEM TO HEAT MY RADIATORS?
A: We do not recommend this as the collection area (and hence the size of the solar panel) required to generate sufficient heat to power radiators would take up a surface area far greater than typically available on a British house. This renders the process not economically viable |
| |
Q: WHAT GUARANTEE COMES WITH THE SYSTEM?
A: The Solar Company UK provides a twelve-month full parts and labour guarantee for your installation along with af Ten-year warranty for your solar panels |
| |
Q: HOW MUCH WILL I SAVE ON MY ENERGY BILLS?
A: Our systems are designed to provide up to 70% of your annual hot water needs, which equates to about 30% of your total energy bill – this is subject to individual use |
| |
Q: WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR PANELS IF WE MOVE HOUSE?
A: All solar systems installed by The Solar Company UK are fully modular and can be easily re-located to a new property if you desire. For a nominal charge (subject to survey) we are able to manage this process for you. |

Q: I HAVE A COMBINATION BOILER, IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH SOLAR HEATING?
A: Yes. But most combination boilers on the market are designed to receive water at a temperature no greater than 25 Degrees Celsius. The Solar Company UK’s systems collect all the available energy via the roof panels and holds it in a thermal storage unit which then delivers the water directly to the hot water taps completely by-passing the boiler or blends it down to 25 Degrees reducing the boiler’s workload by up to 50%. |
| |
Q: HOW MUCH DOES THE SYSTEM COST?
A: Solar heating systems are not an off-the-shelf solution. Each system is individually designed and the cost is dependent on several different factors. For example, water usage patterns and the number of occupants in the property will both determine the number of panels required to meet the demand for hot water and also the size of the hot water cylinder |
