About Our Solar Panels
Solar tubes which are second to none

We believe in developing solid, robust partnerships that are built to last. As a result we ’re proud to be working alongside one of Germany’s largest and most respected vacuum solar panel manufacturers. They have a wealth of industry awards reflecting their commitment to standards of delivery, service levels and product quality.

Below, we describe the innovations behind the success of our solar panels. We feel there is benefit in outlining this technical information as it demonstrates that we are committed to providing the most relevant and proven technology for our customers to use in their homes.

Evacuated Tube Solar Collector

The Technology:
The evacuated tube collector was developed specifically for the solar heating of domestic water and for space heating using solar technology. The remarkably low loss of pressure allows several panels to be connected in series. The collectors can be used for open or close loop applications circulating water or Glycol solution.

This evacuated tube collector differs from the more inferior heat-pipe type collectors which tend to be more readily available in the UK Read more about this in our flat plate solar heating panels vs. vacuum solar heating panels comparison section. Fluid is permitted to circulate freely throughout the U-tubes within the evacuated tubes thus reducing localised hot spots and scale build-up.

The evacuated tube solar panel consists of three main components. These are delivered to us completely pre-assembled and ready for installation:

Evacuated Tubes
CPC Mirrors
Collecting Box with Heat Transfer Unit

The Evacuated Tube
The evacuated tube is a perfectly designed product optimized in terms of its geometry and functionality. The tubes consist of two sealed and concentric glass tubes which are fused together. The gap between the tubes is evacuated (vacuum is created) and afterwards hermetically sealed.

In order to convert solar energy into usable power the outer surface of the inner of the two glass tubes is coated with an environmentally friendly film designed to absorb the rays. This vacuum-protected coating contains a layer of aluminum nitrite sputter which is characterized by very low emission levels and excellent absorption properties.

The CPC Mirror
In order to increase the efficiency of the evacuated tubes, a highly reflective, weatherproof CPC mirror (Compound Parabolic Concentrator) is placed behind the evacuated tubes. The special mirror geometry ensures that even under weak irradiation angles direct and diffused sunlight is able to fall onto the absorber. This substantially improves the energy output of the solar collector.

Collecting Box with Heat Transfer Unit
The insulated collection and distribution pipes are located within the collecting box. The advance or return connections are always found on the opposite side of the unit.

In each evacuated tube there is a U pipe with direct flow-through, this is connected to the collection or distribution pipe to ensure that each individual evacuated tube exhibits the same hydraulic resistance. This U pipe is pressed to the inside of the evacuated tube by the heat guide plate.

Solar Panel Awards
Our solar panels have received the highest ratings from Stiftung Warentest (the German product testing foundation) as well as from many consumer and environmental publications.

The evacuated tube collector CPC mirror azzuro; manufactured for Paradigma, was honored with the 2000 Industry Forum Design Award.

In 1997 the manufacturing company’s principal shareholder was declared Eco Manager of the Year by the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) and the business magazine, Capital.

The same shareholder also awarded the Prognos Award for 1998 by the Prognos Institute.

And in 2003 the solar panels received the German Solar Award. This was awarded by EUROSOLAR (European Association for Renewable Energy) in honour of their special commitment in the sector of renewable energies.
